Ghislaine Guertin

She is very nearly edited out of the issue of Passages which features the project. There are no screens from her essay, and in the transcript of the panel discussion there is only one recorded response from her which I include here in full:

“It was my first experience and I was curious. It was a welcome challenge, coming here with a scholarly apparatus of note cards in place. These cards have very specific technical references built into them, but used a manual method. In that method I had already worked out conceptual branching, the link between this key idea and that key idea. The challenge was to represent the way in which semantic networks as ‘knowledge-representation systems’ are being developed in computers.”

I find myself wondering how much of the erasure here results because of her Frenchness, how much because of her herness.
