On April 10th, after Premier Jaruzelski threatened to resign, the Sejm approved a resolution calling for a two-month suspension of strikes and strike threats.
On April 13th the government announced plans to ration butter, wheat, flour, rice and cereals for the first time since the great war. On April 17 the government reconsiders and recognizes the independent union of farmers.
On August 1st, monthly meat rations are cut from 3.7kg. per person to 3.0 kg. New price increases ranging from 100-300% are considered. Hundreds of thousands participate in food protests in Lódz, Lublin, and Gdansk.
